Critical Care Nursing UnitWoodlawn Hospital's Critical Care Unit serves patients who require continuous, comprehensive care because of the critical nature of their medical status. This 5-bed unit is operational 24 hours a day and is designed to provide a concentration of skills and equipment for specialized medical and nursing care. All emergency equipment is located at the patient's bedside or nearby so that complications, should they occur, can be dealt with immediately.
Woodlawn is proud to be able to provide personalized and individualized critical nursing care. The unit is complete with visual observation and sophisticated monitoring by specially trained and certified nurses who offer each patient around the clock individualized care and attention. The CCU staff utilizes a supportive and collaborative approach to interactions with patients and their families. CCU is always staffed with a registered nurse who is certified in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Pediatric Life Support (PALS). Our nurse to patient ratio averages one nurse for every 1 or 2 patients. The unit is furnished with all private rooms and private bathrooms. We have installed glass doors on patient rooms to allow observation but still provide some privacy as well as noise control.
Advanced technology is a part of the Critical Care Unit at Woodlawn, with computers on wheels containing electronic records brought to the patient's room. Bar code scanners are used at the bedside to scan the identification bracelet and medication to ensure they are administered safely.
Visiting hours are 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. All nursing staff are flexible to meet the needs of patients and family. Visitation is dependent on the patient's condition as well as that of other patient's in the CCU. Visitors are asked to keep visits brief and limited to two people at a time depending on patient condition.
Patients and family members are encouraged to be active participants in their care. We want you to be well informed about your plan of care. Our professional staff is available to answer questions or address any concerns you may have.
Always there, ready to care.
